Tom is President and founder of the Centre for Enabling Leadership. Initially trained as a mechanical design engineer, Tom's experience has ranged wide from production to senior management as CEO of a Scottish business, before changing to a career that focused specifically on enabling others to achieve more through personal growth. The goal, mission and vision of the Centre is to assist individuals to be "better persons" as a means of enabling them to have "a better life" and thus be more able to contribute to making a "better society". This has been Tom's passion for years and he has a track record of success in transforming the quality of life of many people by making them aware of, and then helping them fulfil their potential. To achieve this, he uses a range of very effective tools and techniques that include on-line behavioural diagnostic questionnaires. The key to his success has been in assisting individuals and teams to clearly identify the compelling reason why they should change and then to create, with them, the most effective processes that enable them to make the difference.

Tom undertakes development assignments worldwide that range from influencing CEOs and other senior executives to adopt a more enabling style of leadership, to working with front line colleagues in finding ways to empower themselves. He has specialised knowledge in designing and facilitating coaching and learning events that can accelerate personal development in a truly business focused manner. Another area in increasing demand is the design and coordination of assessment centres that are based on tailor made capability profiling which effectively replaces the practice of using a "one size fits all" approach.

This type of centre can be effective in assisting organisations to recruit new talent against a developed capability profile as well as provide an objective means of assessing individual capability for development, increased responsibility and promotion to more senior positions. Personal development has been one of Tom's main areas of interest and he has developed a range of short 3 hour to three day learning events that include "People Skills" and "Personal Branding". Tom has developed the on-line behavioural questionnaires with the Centell team as a sound vehicle for individuals to diagnose their strengths as well as highlight areas that need development. The insights that emerge have provided a powerful motivator for change and the results have been quite spectacular in many instances. He is an effective facilitator where 'difficult' issues and people need to be confronted in a positive manner to produce a constructive outcome.

Tom is a Chartered Engineer, has an MBA in which he majored in group behaviour and is a Chartered Companion of the Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development. He is actively engaged in the international scene as a keynote speaker and workshop facilitator at conferences around the world. Has had published several books and many articles with Enabling Leadership being his latest book. Current assignments involve Tom in creating new ways to assist organisations and individuals to cope with the pace of change being brought about by the global economy and the mantra of "more for less" that this has created.
